Cedarwood or cedar oil is derived from the roots and wood pieces of the cedar tree. Cedarwood oil has antiseptic, antifungal, antibacterial, sedative and astringent properties. It’s a great essential oil that can be used for hair care and treating problems like dandruff, itchy scalp and hair loss. When used in aromatherapy it:
- Helps the body fight off stress,
Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica) has a warm, woodsy aroma that creates a comforting, uplifting experience. - Stabilizes the heart rate,
- Lowers blood pressure, and
- Boosts the immune system.
It can also be used as a tonic to:
- Improve the brain function;
- Enhance the functionality of the liver and kidneys;
- Protect teeth and gums; and,
- Tone the muscles of the body.
Cedarwood oil is also good for getting rid of insects and a variety of pests like bed bugs and for controlling fungi, molds and yeasts.
Pro tips: Add 8-10 drops of cedarwood oil in your bath or massage 2-4 drops into your stomach area to improve the condition of your kidneys and treat cystitis and urinary tract infection.
